Shane is now an independent consultant, with over 20 years international consumer and business to business direct marketing experience. Her clients include Royal Mail, Financial Times, Dennis Publishing, and the Institute of Directors.  Shane formed Think Direct in 1997 to provide independent strategic direct marketing advice and training.  In addition, Shane is a non executive director for a number of supplier companies within the Direct Marketing sector, providing corporate advice including mergers and acquisitions.

Shane undertakes regular speaking engagements across the UK, in New York, Paris, Brussels;  as well as being an Honorary Fellow and retained lecturer for the Institute of Direct Marketing.  Shane has contributed to various Direct Marketing textbooks including: Royal Mail International's "Marketing Without Frontiers", and the IDM Practitioners Guide to Direct Marketing.

Until February 1997 Shane was Sales Director of MARDEV Ltd a division of Reed Elsevier plc.  Mardev is a leading international direct marketing services company, providing worldwide data, with offices in the UK, USA, Europe, Australia and Asia. Shane was responsible for the sales and marketing of Mardev lists, and worked with major international companies including Time, McGraw Hill, Viking Direct and The Economist Newspaper. The list management and brokerage business was sold in December 1996 to Direct Media International, a subsidiary of Acxiom Ltd.

Shane is a past board member of the DMA (UK) and vice chair of The Federation of European Direct Marketing (FEDMA).

Shane's career in direct marketing started after gaining a degree in Geography, from Cambridge University when she joined IBIS as a graduate trainee. After completing training she helped set up a new division, marketing and selling "The UK Business File" to business-to-business marketers. Worked in the IBIS New York office for 2 years as an account executive looking after American International mailers. Returned to the UK to take up position of Sales Manager, Publisher Services.

In September 1987 made Research Director, responsible for one of the largest list research departments of any UK list company. Also instrumental in setting up new internal list broking department specialising in international business list broking. Founder member of a European consortium of list owners and "Business Lists Europe" whose aim is to provide a quick efficient service for clients needing lists throughout Europe. In September 1988 was a member of the Management buyout team backed by 3i, that successfully took over IBIS. IBIS was subsequently sold to Mardev Ltd. part of the Reed Elsevier Group in November 1994.
